It is unique in that it was the first tablet PC to feature a multi-touch, active digitizer. The digitizer, produced by N-Trig, allows a user to manipulate data, navigate menus, ink directly on the screen, and draw using the included stylus. The multi-touch feature also allows a user to make use of several gestures and shortcuts to help with user input. The Dell Latitude XT2 form factor is fully compatible, so that users can type on the full-sized keyboard in notebook mode or flip the screen over and use it like a traditional tablet. Both form factors allow for complete use of the active digitizer. When in notebook mode, the Dell Latitude XT2 does have a full sized keyboard despite the small footprint of the machine over all. The screen is a 12.1 (diagonal) inch LCD, and the entire machine only measures 11.7 x 8.7 x 1.1 inches; it weighs only 3.8 pounds with the standard battery. The Dell Latitude XT2 was designed for Microsoft Windows Vista, but it should also work well with the upcoming Microsoft Windows 7. The computer has a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 1.2Ghz processor, can accept up to 3GB of RAM, and comes with an 80GB SATA II hard drive, but a Solid State Drive option is also available. The XT2 also has built-in wireless networking and features a LCD based antenna that offers great signal reception. Although other PC manufactures have released multi-touch convertible tablets, the Dell Latitude XT2 was the first, and it continues to be a very stable and solid option for people looking for a sturdy and well designed tablet PC.
